DAVID L. MEYER

And I take that final breath;
I want to know I've left behind
Some "good" before my death.
I hope that in my final hour
In all honesty I can say;
That somewhere in my lifetime,
I have brightened someone's day.
That maybe I have brought a smile
To someone else's face...
And made one moment a little sweeter
While they dwelled here in this place.
Lord, please be my reminder
And whisper softly in my ear,
To be a "giver", not a "taker",
In the years I have left here.
Give to me the strength I need
Open up my mind, my soul,
That I might show sincere compassion
And love to others before I go.
For if not a heart be touched by me,
And not a smile was left behind,
Then the life that I am blessed with
Will have been a waste of time.
With all my heart, I truly hope
To leave something here on earth...
That touched another, made them smile
And gave to my life, worth.
He said to me that you had asked to please allow my life to last;
When you thought He did not hear, it was then He brought me here.
He told me that it's still your cry...asking Him, "Why, Lord, why?"
Wipe the tear stains from your face...for I do live amidst God's grace,
My life's not over, it's just begun; in Heaven above, with His precious Son.
You see, he did what he thought best, His knowledge being above the rest,
He knew the way to set me free...and give me life eternally;
He sent the angels up above, the pain on earth to free me of,
No more suffering, no more strife...and no more sickness in my life.
Completely healed with no more pain, amidst lost loved ones once again.
Oh, if you could only see how good the Lord has been to me!
He lets me walk these streets of gold...and everywhere I go I'm told
How happy they are to see me...
when came that time that God did free me.
Upon arriving at this place, I was greeted with sweet embrace,
As I looked up I recognized, I was staring into Momma's eyes;
I felt a touch upon my hand, and there my sister, she did stand...
Grandma, Grandpa...they all were there...family and friends were everywhere.
So, you see, you now must dry your eyes...no more sadness, no more cries
For I have found such peace above, I'm surrounded by such precious love.
I've asked the Father, here above, to direct your path with grace and love.
To keep you under watchful eye...and wipe away those tears you cry.
On bended knee and faithful spirit, you prayed for me and God did hear it,
But with His infinite wisdom pure, He alone could find the cure,
And that cure being to take my hand and lift me here, to Heaven's Land.
And give to me what I was after...peace and love, joy and laughter.
So, let this not be our "Goodbye"...and ask not God a reason why...
Just know that I will here await, to greet you too, at Heaven's Gate.

In Loving Memory of *Nelda Jones*
If the sun should rise and find your eyes all filled with tears for me;
I wish so much you wouldn't cry the way you did to
while thinking of the many things we didn't get to say.
I know how much you love me, as much as I love you,
and each time you think of me I know you'll miss me too;
But when tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand,
that an angel came and called my name and took me by the
hand, and said my place was ready in heaven far above,
and that I'd have to leave behind all those I dearly love.
But as I turned to walk away, a tear fell from my eye,
for all of life, I'd always thought I didn't want to die.
I had so much to live for and so much yet to do,
it seemed almost impossible that I was leaving you.
I thought of all the yesterdays, the good ones and the bad,
I thought of all the love we shared and all the fun we had.
If I could relive yesterday, I thought, just for awhile,
I'd say goodbye and kiss you and maybe see you smile.
But then I fully realized that this could never be,
for emptiness and memories would take the place of me.
And when I thought of wordly things that I'd miss come tomorrow,
I thought of you, and when I did, my heart was filled with sorrow.
But when I walked through heaven's gates, I felt so much at home.
When God looked down and smiled at me, from His great golden throne,
He said, "This is eternity and all I've promised you".
Today your life on earth is past but here it starts anew.
I promise no tomorrow, but today will allways last,
and since each day's the same day, there's no longing for the past.
But you have been so faithful, so trusting, so true.
Though there were times you did some things you knew you shouldn't do.
But you have been forgiven and now at last your'e free.
So won't you take my hand and share my life with me?
So when tomorrow starts without me, don't think we're far
apart, for everytime you think of me, I'm right here in your heart.

I read of a pastor who stood to speak
at the funeral of his friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
from the beginning...to the end.
@"-'-<-<---------- † ---------->->-'-"@
He noted that first came the date of her birth
and spoke of the following date with tears,
but he said what mattered most of all
was the dash between those years.
@"-'-<-<---------- † ---------->->-'-"@
For that dash represents all the time
that she spent alive on earth,
and now only those who loved her
know what that little line is worth.
@"-'-<-<---------- † ---------->->-'-"@
For it matters not, how much we own;
the cars, the house, the cash.
What matters is how we live and love
and how we spend our dash.
@"-'-<-<---------- † ---------->->-'-"@
So think about this long and hard,
are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left.
(You could be at "dash mid-range.")
@"-'-<-<---------- † ---------->->-'-"@
If we could just slow down enough
to consider what's true and real,
and always try to understand
the way other people feel.
@"-'-<-<---------- † ---------->->-'-"@
And be less quick to anger,
and show appreciation more
and love the people in our lives
like we've never loved before.
@"-'-<-<---------- † ---------->->-'-"@
If we treat each other with respect,
and more often wear a smile,
remembering that this special dash
might only last a little while.
@"-'-<-<---------- † ---------->->-'-"@
So, when your eulogy is being read
with your life's actions to rehash...
would you be pleased with the things they say
about how you spent your dash?

Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light.
All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in Heaven at last.
Did you wonder I so calmly
Trod the valley of the shade?
Oh! but Jesus' love illumined
Every dark and fearful glade.
And He came Himself to meet me
In that way so hard to tread;
And with Jesus' arm to lean on,
Could I have one doubt or dread?
Then you must not grieve so sorely,
For I love you dearly still:
Try to look beyond earth's shadows,
Pray to trust our Father's Will.
There is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand;
Do it now, while life remaineth-
You shall rest in Jesus' land.
When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you Home;
Oh, the rapture of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come!
